About Us

Grubby Paws was officially founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in July of 2021 after many years of volunteering in the rescue community.

About Us

A rescue partnership began when Laura Grubbs connected with Rossy, a local dog rescuer in Mexico, through Facebook when she was fundraising for dog food for the local street dogs. After seeing the poor condition these dogs were living in and the immediate need for medical treatment, Laura knew she had to jump in to help however she could. Laura, who lives in California and has volunteered in the rescue community for many years, quickly started her own 501(c)(3) non-profit called Grubby Paws Rescue to help Rossy find homes for the overwhelming amount of stray dogs coming into her sanctuary. Rossy runs her rescue, Hogar Temporal Mejoramigo, meaning "A Temporary Home My Friend" out of her home in Mexico creating a sanctuary for all of the homeless street dogs. Many of her family and friends foster for her as well. Grubby Paws funds the cost of medical care and transport to bring around 50 dogs at a time to the US to find homes. Although these two women are not fluent in each other's first language, they have found a way to stay in daily contact, and for the love of dogs a wonderful friendship has formed to save many lives.

How Do We Prepare for Transport?

Prior to making the big trip to the US there is a lot of work that goes into making these dogs adoptable! While only a health certificate and current rabies vaccine are required to cross the border, Grubby Paws makes sure each dog is fully vetted and ready to start their new chapter right away. Each dog is spay/neutered, brought up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested, provided dental care if needed, and SO much more. While waiting for vet care and transport these dogs are safe and cared for at Temporal Mejor Amigo while Grubby Paws delivers supplies on a regular basis.
